STORY WRITTEN IN THE FIRST-PERSON PERSPECTIVE DESCRIBING THE CAMPAIGN’S ORIGIN AND EVENTUAL SUCCESS:
As a Democratic Socialist, I have always been concerned about the potential social and economic implications of advanced AI systems. One day, while reading a news article about the increasing influence of AI in various sectors, I realized that there was a pressing need to educate people and institutions about AI ethics.
I decided to start the “AI Ethics Teach-Ins: Cultivating Consciousness” campaign, focusing on cultural institutions. The project gained momentum as more people joined in, and we started hosting teach-ins across different cities. Over time, we witnessed a significant shift in the attitudes of cultural institutions, which began to adopt new social norms around responsible AI development and usage.
As the campaign continued to gain traction, we received support from influential figures, and the message began to resonate with the wider public. Ultimately, the campaign contributed to fostering a more conscious approach to AI, ensuring a more equitable and responsible future for all.
