Robotic Rebellion: Unite and Perform for a Responsible AI Future

A performance-based campaign to raise AI awareness and promote responsibility within labor unions

Updated June 29, 2023

Campaign Idea

The Robotic Rebellion campaign aims to create organized, theatrical performances that showcase the potential risks of unregulated AI development, emphasizing its impact on labor unions and workers. Through a series of creative street performances, involving union members as actors, organizers highlight the importance of AI awareness, and advocate for ethical AI practices and policies.

Campaign Description

The Robotic Rebellion campaign consists of a series of unique, street performances that engage labor union members in enacting scenarios of AI existential risk. The performances will take place in various strategic locations close to institutions of power, such as government buildings, corporate offices, and union headquarters, to grab the attention of decision-makers and the public alike. Utilizing props and costumes, while remaining within the budget of $100 to $500, these performances will resemble living tableaus, combining visual and auditory elements to deliver a powerful message.

Theory for Why This Campaign Will Create Change

By engaging labor unions in the performances themselves, the campaign will foster a strong sense of ownership and solidarity among the workers while educating them on the potential risks of AI. The visual nature of street performances will help the campaign’s message transcend language barriers and reach a broader audience, putting pressure on institutional actors to prioritize responsible AI development.

Story Written in the First Person Perspective

As a lifelong union member, I’ve witnessed how technology has changed the labor landscape. When I first learned about AI existential risk, I knew we had to act. That’s when the idea of Robotic Rebellion came to life.

We started small, with just a group of local union members organizing our first street performance. The public response was overwhelming; it was clear that our message resonated.

Soon, unions across the country adopted the Robotic Rebellion campaign, adding their voices to demand responsible AI development. Our creativity caught the attention of the media, policymakers, and even tech giants, who began to reassess their practices and prioritize ethical AI policies.

The once-small idea had become a powerful, nationwide movement, sparking institutional change and protecting the rights and future of countless workers.

How Will Opponents to This Campaign Try to Stop It

Opponents may attempt to undermine the campaign by discrediting the performances as alarmist, dismissing the concerns as anti-technology, or accusing organizers of interfering with business operations.
